well Edward elric and alphonse elric tried to bring their mom back from the dead using alchemy and ed lost his leg and al his body ed sacrificed his arm to bring him back and put his brother's soul in a suit of armour and their looking for the Philospher stone that inhances the power of transmution in alchemy and their trying to find it so they can get their bodies back and to do that ed joined the state alchemist aka alchemist army so he can get into libraries to find out more of the Philospher stone so that's the basic intro
