they make him seem bad because he killed the whole clan except sasuke to torture him, wrong, the whole clan was about to go to war with an old rival clan(much longer story) and the leaf village couldn't allow it and as you know itachi was no. 1 in the anbu so danzo(evil old dude) ordered him to kill the entire clan, so he did but, he couldn't stand to kill his little brother because he loved him so much...of course sasuke only finds that out AFTER he kills itachi...idiot, oh sorry...SUPER SPOILER!!!!!
